errors in french translation /erreurs de traduction

Postby RDaneel » 25 Apr 2005 13:59

Hello,

I am french speaking, and I must say that there are errors in the french translation of the VLC media player, version 0.8.1 for Windows. For instance, "time to live (TTL)" does NOT translate into "temps de vie" in french !

maybe because TTL is a common set in IP packets (even in french)
it could be confusing to translate it.

if you are underwindows try ping http://www.google.fr, and i'm sure you'll also see TTL while the ping tool is translated

Tradittore, traduttore.
...or something like that. I'm sure a real Italian would know. "A translator, a traitor." The pun works in most Romance languages since traductor is the root of both [obviously not in English, although translator and traductor do have much the same sense].
