MPEG-2 gpu acceleration not supported

Postby NikosD » 27 Aug 2010 06:26

Hello again.

My system: Win 7 x64 - Radeon 5750 - Catalyst 10.8

Using the latest VLC 1.1.3 with GPU acceleration enabled I get these results:

1) VC-1 accelerated

2) H.264 accelerated

3) WMV accelerated

4) MPEG-2 not accelerated

5) MPEG-4 ASP (Divx,Xvid) not accelerated

Two samples provided:

MPEG-2: http://rapidshare.com/files/415379940/0 ... s.m2v.html

MPEG-4 ASP: http://rapidshare.com/files/415380242/S ... 0.avi.html

The last two why they don't get acceleration ?

Thank you

Because your 5750 doesn't accelerate fully MPEG-2, so we don't use it.
And because Mpeg-4 isn't part of DxVA2

So you accelerate full bitstream DXVA mode and not hardware assisted, if that is what you mean.

WMP12 accelerate MPEG2 on my 5750 and ATI claims that they accelerate fully MPEG-2 (bitstream acceleration) as part of UVD 2.x capabilities

Nvidia cards with VP4, how they accelerate Mpeg-4 ?

They only accelerate H.264/MPEG-4 AVC. When people talk about MPEG-4 they usually mean MPEG-4 Part 2 video (Simple Profile or Advanced Simple Profile) which most people associate to DivX or to XviD. And MPEG-4 Part 2 isn't hardware supported in most display adapters.

Yeah, I know that's why I specifically wrote it to my first post.

I know that VP4 accelerate MPEG-4 ASP too
