ULtraDisc voice recorder problem.

I have just bought an UltraDisc mobile voice recorder. In keeping with the recommendations I downloaded the most recent VLC and Real media players, plus codecs.
No matter what I do I cannot get it to play. I recorded a story before sending it back to the supplier who tells me it plays perfectly. He even told me about the story he had listened to. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong?
