3rd Party junk installs with vlc?

Postby arthur96 » 15 Aug 2010 03:41

hi all new here but have been using vlc forever. I have a Question.

was on shark7's site when i noticed this link http://land.mediavlc.com/ thought id download the new version of vlc from there because there was a file i needed to play that for whatever reason didnt want to play with just codecs and WMP. Insted of downloading VLC though what i got was a 396 KB file named vlc_setup that upon install wanted to install babylon software and change my search provider and home page with no options to opt out. I stopped the install needless to say.

So my question is is this officialy sanctiond by the VLC people here or is it some scam and if so why would it be plasterd all over a popular codec pack makers website.

oh yea i agree however the link on that website was using vlc's logo/icon whatever and being on a reputable codec pack makers website would lead one to think it was a legit distribution point.

So once again i ask who are these people and do they represent the people here?

quick followup : the reference to VLC player on shark007's website is gone and replaced with another called "Media Player" that points to the same program they had up there before "http://apps.zangomultimedia.com/media/" They just changed the name.

What bothers me the most however is that my post on shark's forums asking him what the deal was and that that was NOT VLC has been deleted and even when i look at my forum CP for all my posts its not there.

This and more recent toolbar installs from shark's codec pack with no way to opt out has put me off his codeck pack. too bad too it had potential but to be honest installing and uninsalling every other day to get the latest codecs was a pain and there was no real upgrade path. also last few packs seemed to corrupt my Media library. probably do to the extra junk in the installer.

another quick note here: yet another post was deleted from shark007's forum when i called him on deleting my first post and the sudden changes in the scam vlc ad that was on his site.
