1.1.2 VP8 error

Postby FORCE » 13 Aug 2010 12:25

On my Ubuntu 10.04 VLC 1.1.2 cannot play webm (VP8) or even VP8 in MKV container, 1.1.2 works fine with VP8 on Ballmer 7.

Then, update your ffmpeg.

1.1.1 worked fine but i hope it will be fixed in 1.1.3, i think it is just some VLC bug in VP8. What for FFmpeg? as i understand VLC is standalone? on Win VLC is fine...

No. VP8 decoding is done through FFmpeg, not VLC directly. You need a recent VLC built on top of a recent FFmpeg. That's why it works on Windows VLC.
