Android version of VLC

In another thread I just got the information that, obviously, no Android version of VLC is going to be. However, the thread deals with general mobile version, and because of the highly increasing popularity of Android as the main alternative to the contemporary iOS dominated market, I felt there should be a discussion about VLC being portated to Android.

I hope we can gather enough interest here to convince that such a version is needed and will save the day, if not the world.

AFAIK dionoea is working on a port:

Not sure of the status. Presumably requires a whole new Java-based interface for Android devices.

Android phones are the worst. I'm on my 2nd one and I have nothing good to say about it.
