MD5Sum

Postby rabadi » 31 Jul 2010 03:19

I saw this thread here about MD5Sum (viewtopic.php?f=12&t=80344&start=0&hilit=md5) and was wondering whether the info on Windows page (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html) is also incorrect. I downloaded vlc-1.1.2-win32.exe twice (the first time from Internode, and then from Transact mirror), and both register md5sum at a040d5820afc7fe23fb6a92758a9d455. The page however specifies that md5sum should be 01655d137224f5bbdf210f70eff2855d. What is curious is that the one downloadable from FileHippo (http://www.filehippo.com/download_vlc/) is actually md5summed at 01655d137224f5bbdf210f70eff2855d. Note that the size from both mirrors are the same but also are different from the FileHippo one.

Off-topic: still waiting for Ubuntu PPA to be updated with VLC 1.1.2, as that is my platform of choice whereas this Windows version I download just for my friend :D

Yeah, there's something wrong here.

Yesterday or so I downloaded 1.1.2. from one of the VLC sourceforge mirrors, and I got a file with the md5 01655D137224F5BBDF210F70EFF2855D. But I tried downloading again just now, from the Mesh mirror, and got a different file with md5 A040D5820AFC7FE23FB6A92758A9D455.

What is going on here? Which of the installer files is the correct installer for 1.1.2? Can any of the developers chime in on what the difference between these installers is?

edit: in the VLC FTP archive linked to on the download page, the md5 given for the 1.1.2. exe installer is a040d5820afc7fe23fb6a92758a9d455, different from the download page.

We had to change the packages because of a localization bug in the original version. Updated md5 sums were just transmitted to the webserver and will be available shortly.

Sorry for the trouble.
