Adding Lunettes "Black" Style To Regular Mac VLC?

Postby SnidelyW » 31 Jul 2010 02:07

Hello again,

I was wondering . . .

Is there a way to add the "Black" style that is found under the Lunettes "Window" menu to the regular Mac version of VLC?

I've been wanting this "overlay" feature in the regular Mac VLC for a long time. It is so much nicer to watch a video when there are no borders, controls or red yellow and green window buttons around the video window, and the video window can just blend right into a black desktop, such as when you use Isolator. Having everything black helps you to concentrate more on watching the video . . . at least so me thinks.

That's not possible right now and never will.

We will not add any further features to the existing Mac OS X interface of VLC. It will be replaced by the Qt4 interface know by the Win32 and Linux ports, plus an advanced version of Lunettes.

Hello Felix,

What is the Qt4 interface, and where can I see an example of it?

Will Mac VLC still look like a Macintosh app after you effect this change?

What is the advanced version of Lunettes?

Thanks!

For Qt4, have a look at any VLC screenshot for Linux or Windows. Don't worry, it won't look that bad on a Mac and we are adding a lot of Mac-specific elements to hide the cross-platform background of this framework. So yes, it will still look like a Mac application. There are no screenshots of it yet, though.

Lunettes will evolve over time, especially in September and October this year, so it will hopefully be more advanced afterwards :-)
