DVR-like Internet radio streaming?

Hello, I am not sure if this is possible with the current version of VLC (I'm using the Linux version of 1.0.6), but I like my DVR's auto-record function.

Whenever I watch TV, it automatically starts recording what I'm watching, and then once it hits two hours recorded, the very first minute of that recording is deleted to make room for the most current minute, then the new "first minute" is deleted to make room for the next current minute, etc. In this way, it's a two-hour recording that shifts to keep up with the current time. So if I start watching TV at 12pm and finish watching at 6:13pm, then there's still only two hours on the DVR's hard drive: from 4:13pm to 6:13pm. If I change channels, that two hours of recording is deleted (unless I hit the record button before changing channels - then that is permanently saved).

Is there some way I can get this functionality with Internet radio streams in VLC? Sometimes I want to pause the radio to talk to someone, or rewind it to re-listen to something I might not have understood clearly.

I know there is the possibility of streaming & saving to the hard drive - that's what I'm doing right now, but it will continually fill up my hard drive as the radio plays. By the way, that last feature I mentioned - deleting the "temporary" recording - I don't need that part. I can delete it if I decide I don't want it, but it's better to have an unneeded two (or one, perhaps) hour recording than a 7 hour recording.
