How to crash vlc

Postby Whistle » 17 Jul 2010 17:38

I am able to crash VLC and repeat the process. It might be a bug
I accepted to send the crash report but I am posting the way to reproduce the bug

My Environnement: XP SP3
VLC: 1.1.0

Reproduction of the bug:
  • VideoLan is not running
I double click in a video file
When VLC opens with the splash screen
I press the spacebar (you have to be fast)
    VLC close

I was able to do it with .wmv, .mkv or .avi files

Have you changed default action for spacebar?

Nop. (I checked just to make sure it was the play/pause action)

I second that.
Thanks Vlc_help for opening a ticket, because it does same for me after following Whistle's instructions to reproduct the bug with any avi file : it crashes too (I'm also on XP)

Just an idea...could it be possible this happens only on "old" PC's (mine is P4) ?
I remember we had this kind of problems in programs using redirected keys ("on key Spacebar...") : problems happened (sometimes) on slow PC's but never on recent one's.
On a slow PC, the user was able to quickly press the key before it was redirected in the program. But when he did same on a recent PC, all worked fine because the redirection was already in effect and it was impossible to trick the program.

Old PC doesn't mean anything. Problem prolly is in program logic where pause state shouldn't be send during file opening.
