vlc player vs powerdvd7 ?

Postby iced » 21 Jan 2007 12:55

ive been using vlc player since i got a pc. i just tried powerdvd 7 and i noticed a big difference. power dvd makes the movies look brighter more colorful and better quality. however im not sure if this is the way the movie is origionaly ment to be or if powerdvd is changing the settings. i kind of like to watch movies in origional format, the way they are ment to be

Both PowerDVD and WinDVD by default do not use DirectX. They use there own enhancement module. In WinDVD it's called Vivid and is the default. The author tries to show you how good it is by showing side by side comparisons in demos. But this is not the best working for most computers and is not how the DVD was originally intended. It is an enhancement. It is now showing up in a few high end TVs. VLC does NOT offer this.

I decided that I didn't like the extra brightness in colors and went back to vlc player

Yup me too! I also shut it down in WinDVD and used the standard DirectX settings.

Try opening Messages before playing the DVD and note if there are errors. Also open your Task manager and note the CPU usage and available memory.

Try this!

Does it help if you're doing this ? :

Tools -> Preferences -> Show settings: ALL
Input codecs -> Access modules -> DVD with menus
Untick the option "Start directly in menu".
Save the preferences then close and restart VLC.
