brief clicks and stoppages when playing mp3 files with 1.1.0

I'm using 1.1.0 on Vista 32-bit, 2GB memory, E2140 processor, Realtek audio. When playing mp3 files there are frequent, albeit brief, clicks and stoppages. Say a tenth to a quarter of a second. I cannot replicate the problem with other audio players, and the problem doesn't happen with videos played with VLC. The same files play properly using the 1.0 line. I uninstalled, rebooted, and reinstalled 1.1.0 with no improvement.

Any ideas?

I uninstalled again, resinstalled but this time had VLC delete the old preferences and cache. That fixed it.

1.1.0 The Luggage, XP Pro, up to date &c, deleted old preferences & cache when I installed the new version.

I get the hitches when playing back an AVI encoded with Indeo 5 (thank you thank you merci beaucoup thank you for supporting this format!), with its audio in "PCM U8 (araw)" as per the Codec Info display in VLC. The effect is least noticable with Win32 waveOut output module, but still annoying ; with some of the others it's beyond distracting into painful.

With "Messages" at verbosity 2, I get endless lines of the following, & no other messages or warnings :

1. Open: Tools -> Messages.
2. Set Verbosity to 2
3. Start playback to reproduce your issue
4. Save text in a file or copy into clipboard

Also don't forget to name your Operating System and provide the VLC media player version.

Since this starts at the very beginning, & the whole video is only 150 seconds or so long, it's clear to me that whether this is microseconds, or clock cycles, or whatever, there can be no truth to these messages.

Well thought my problem was solved but it's returned. I tested the resinstallation with music files and they worked ok, but with podcasts the problem is still there. Seems to be worse with longer files, and gets worse as playback advances. Or perhaps it's simply more noticeable with non-musical audio.

With some files these warnings appears, with others they don't. I'm testing with normal mp3s...only variable that comes to mind is different bitrates. The ones that cause problems work ok with 1.0.

Also as suggested I tried several different audio output methods, no improvement however.

Don't know what to tell you — I just re-downloaded all 39 MB if it to make sure the link was OK, & no problems, at a decent transfer rate.

Hi all,

I'm having the exact same problem as aerotive when I play mp3 podcasts that I've downloaded to my PC. I can play the same mp3 in WMP or an earlier version of VLC and there is no problem. Also, no problems playing video. I tried all the audio output modules and it made no difference.

I'm running WinXP SP3 with all the latest patches, 3.2 GHz Intel processor, 2.5 G memory, and a Creative SB Live! sound card. I'm very much a novice when it comes to audio and video tech. If there are any tests you can suggest for me to run to help solve this problem, I'd be glad to do it. I really like VLC but this problem makes it unusable for listening to mp3 podcasts.

Exact same problem here, glitches and drop-outs when playing Leo Laporte's Podcasts (netcasts). Not consistent in timing, or patterns, just seems to happen at different times.
