"Virtual" video capture device / Real Video

Is it possible to use VLC as a playlist manager, outputting video to a virtual video capture device, so that I can use Real Producer to capture video from said virtual device?

I believe there's no functionality on VLC to stream in Real Video format. So if I can set VLC to play videos and outputting to a virtual video capture device, then I can use Real Producer to capture video from this virtual device, like there was a software "loopback".

Can this be done?

I don´t know if VLC is able to ouput to a "virtual sink", but using DirectShow filters (for Windows) or GStreamer may be useful for your purpouse. You may even do the whole process (Real Produce streaming) with GStreamer, but I'm not sure about it.

Just for extra info... In Windows you can use something like this:

So in you can see a new "Capture Device", which "captures" the output stream from a DirectShow graph which ends in a "medialook sink". I don´t propose as a solution but it gives more information.
