VLC 1.1 Not Playing DVD in Windows 7 64-bit

Postby Aulus » 13 Jul 2010 21:49

It's like the title says. I just got a new, premade machine with Windows 7 64-bit, and VLC, which played the same DVD fine on my old XP box, won't run it now. Oddly, after running the DVD in PowerCinema, which works, it'll play in VLC... with some severe distortion and lag. The drive is called "ATAPI DVD A DH16AASH" in the Device Manager, and the region is set properly to 1 (US). The following is what happens when it won't play at all. Any ideas on how to make it work would be appreciated!

A quick look with google found a few others with similar problems - all of whom used Win 7. Have you tried updating the driver for this device?

Don't have this drive myself, but vlc plays dvd's just fine in both of my drives.

I have, unfortunately; it's using the latest official drivers. DVDs seem to work fine in this drive and in the corresponding Blu-Ray drive when played in PowerCinema. To make it even stranger, (h264) video files I have stored to the hard drive work just fine in VLC. So, the DVD/Blu-Ray drives work, and VLC works, which is why I find this so odd.

dvdnav warning: cannot get next block (Error reading from DVD.)
VLC cannot read the DVD correctly. Either DVD is damaged, drive has some issues or most likely the added copy protection layer is causing issues for dvdnav.
