Can't get UDP streams to play

I have multiple UDP streams that play jsut fine on Cisco DMP's, but I can't get them to work in the VLC player, or even windows media for that matter. I have gone over all the settings and nothing stands out as bad. In my Cisco appliance UDP://239.25.1.x:xxxx works just fine fo rhte streams. The same string does not in VLC or WMP. I have also tried variations with and without the port and with and without the @. I have tried this on multiple XP laptops, niether of which have windows firewall enabled. Where should I start to look for this? Or is this not possible?
