Can't Shrink VLC Window Past a Certain Point (Aspect Ratio?)

I used to be able to resize VLC to as tiny a window as I liked. Since upgrading to 1.1, it is "locked" to a minimum window size and will shrink no farther. Trouble is, for me, it's still too big.

If I turn off "Lock Aspect Ratio" on the "Aspect Ratio" submenu -- a setting change which does *not* seem to stick (is there a preference to leave it unlocked?) -- then I can shrink the window further, but when doing so, I get black bars on the side. I've tried messing a slight bit with "crop", but can't seem to find the right combination of the two to achieve the proper effect I had going with 1.0.

Essentially, I'm just looking for the ability to drag a window corner and shrink the window as far as I want to shrink it with no interference, without interfering with the video's native aspect ratio, etc. (i.e., not cutting off any of the picture).

Really hoping someone might be able to help, and I thank them in advance for the help!

(P.S. Is it my imagination or is the playlist now -- including all playlist items -- in boldface in v1.1? Anyway to turn it back to non-boldface?)

Am I right in saying this is a bug new to 1.1? Because I know for a fact that I managed to do *something* to get the desired behavior in 1.0 -- although I will be hanged if I can reproduce the steps.

Argh. I'm probably going to need to regress to 1.0, then ... in all honesty, the smaller screen is more important to me, since having it take up 25% of my monitor's workspace makes it a no-go for me.

Do you know what the most recent version of VLC that doesn't have this bug is, i.e., what version number?

I honestly wish I could offer the requested help, but I am not a programmer and don't have any relevant skills that could assist you.

Thank you for responding, though. I'm not a programmer, but I know about filing bug reports in Bugzilla and such things ... do you need any information from me for the bug report, or is it already on file from someone else?

I just upgraded to 1.1 on OS X 10.5.8, and I am also having this problem suddenly. A google search brought me to this thread. Please let me know if further information is needed.

Just to save people a trip who hit this thread via Google and not the other one: it's a bug, it's been filed as ticket #3830 by ajmas, so monitoring that ticket'll be the best mechanism for finding out when it's been fixed.

bug is back, it seems this bug repops up at every new upgraded version of vlc. Same ticket 3830.
