I'm wondering if whoever manages the main website should note on the download page that the current stable version (1.0.5) has had known security issues for 2 months and that the recommended version is either a compile-it-yourself 1.0.6 or a find-it-in-the-forums 1.1.0-RC4 (since the 1.1.0 download is for the original RC). I realize that VLC is not intended for end-users, but if it's going to be targeted for folks compiling their own software why provide outdated binaries?
