vlc-1.0.6 refuses to play g726 stream. 1.0.5 worked fine

Postby kot » 11 Jun 2010 03:52

Hello!

I have an IP-camera (Panasonic BL-C111A), which I use to monitor my baby's sleep... vlc-1.0.5 was playing the video (and sound) just fine (from rtsp://cam-masik:554/nphMpeg4/g726-320x240 -- only reachable from my home LAN, of course), but then I upgraded from 1.0.5 to 1.0.6 (using the FreeBSD port of vlc).

The new version refuses to play the stream, telling me (in good Ukrainian), that g726 can not be played, and neither can mp4v.

I used the exact same options, when building the new version. There is no mention of g726 in config.log. If g726 support is derived from some other software package (x264? ffmpeg?), please, let me know, which one it is... If it is, instead, provided by vlc itself, what could possible have turned it off?

Please, advise! Thanks.

Compare vlc logs (-vvv) between each version

I no longer have the older version, and downgrading would be painful... Is that the only way? Can you not answer my (sub-)question -- whether VLC implements the g726 internally, or relies on a third-party library for that? Thanks!

There is no difference from 1.0.5 to 1.0.6 as regards G.726. You probably broke your libavcodec installation.

Yes, rebuilding x264 and ffmpeg fixed things... vlc started to work -- without a rebuild -- after that...
