How to specify "Device" or "Fifo" in YUV video output?

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

How to specify "Device" or "Fifo" in YUV video output?

Postby OleJak » 03 Jun 2010 14:41

I am reading doks for VLC Command line programing. There I saw

YUV video output

--yuv-file=<string> device, fifo or filename

device, fifo or filename to write yuv frames too.

What heare does device and fifo mean? how to specify them?

FIFO is just another name for named pipe. You need to give the path to a regular file, a named pipe or a device node.
