Song specific Settings

Postby Brondahl » 31 Mar 2010 19:37

Hi there,

Thanks for the software, it's great.

I was wondering:
I have lots of different music files with different volumes, so that if I were to play through an entire list with any one volume setting some pieces would be too quiet, whilst others would be far too loud.
Is there some way of assinging a volume setting (or any other type of setting) directly to a track so that VLC changes its volume whenever that song comes round.

If not, is this an appropriate sort of thing to ask for in the 'Features' forum?

Many Thanks
Brondahl

No this won't work.

Thanks for the reply.
Is it something that coud be developed in the future (and hence something I should mention in feature requests), or is the idea completely incompatible with the way VLC works?

It's not feasible with the current audio architecture.

With all due respect, this request is feasible and has very little or nothing to do with audio architecture. The volume for each song can be stored in a configuration file or playlist file and would be "tied" to a filename or path. Can someone take this request into consideration? It is very useful when you have a list of songs with very big differences in volume. This feature would save the trouble of having to adjust the volume up or down when those very low or very high volume songs start playing.

Yeah, you must know the VLC internal architecture better than I do... so you are welcome to write the piece of cake patch to implement this.
