Recording Resolution not matching actual Playback during liv

I am new here working my way around.
I was just trying out the record button function of VLC. It seems like when I start a stream the codec shows that its 720x480 resolution and when I press the record button and then stop recording after a bit to watch what I recorded it actually displays 720x240 and it looks it too. Why is there a difference between what is displayed live and what is being recorded? Any assitance appreciated or please direct me. Thank you.

So no one had an issue with pressing the record button in VLC advance controls trying to record a 4:3 feed and the recorded file plays out as 16:9?
