How to play a DVD? Which VIDEO_TS/*.VOB file?

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

How to play a DVD? Which VIDEO_TS/*.VOB file?

Postby thoste » 20 Feb 2010 14:59

In my DVD drive (resp. in a folder on my hard disc) there is a DVD with an AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folder.
The VIDEO_TS folder contains a lot of *.VON and other files.

How do I start playing the DVD?

1.) When I click menu Media->Open Disc -> E:\
it start only the first intro with the language selection menu and stops then.
So this does NOT work

2.) When I click the menu Media->Open File->VIDEO_TS.VOB
it plays only the trailer and does NOT play
VTS_01_0.VOB,...,VTS_01_7.VOB
So this does not work too

So what is the recommended way?

Thomas

Open the IFO file or simply the directory.

Did this help? I can try to open the directory or the ifo file but I can only hear the trailer music no pictures. I have the video stream after reinstalling, but if I end vlc-player and restart it: again no pictures. Any clue to this?

Running 1.0.5 under Windows XP professional version 2002, Service Pack 3

Some more information: If I reinstall the player I can view the DVD, everything's OK. But if I end vlc and restart it again I don't get the pictures. Setting messages' verbosity level to 2 I get:

It says to mew that you are working very hard to try to play a Video on VLC.I think that you could play it more easily on the Windows Media Player or in Nero Show.Best regards
