How to get BT878 audio working properly on Ubuntu?

Postby jvdstoel1 » 26 Nov 2008 22:13

Hello,

I am using VLC to encode audio/video into H.264/MPEG4A. For this purpose, I am using an Osprey 210 card using the BT878 chip. However, if I understand well, this chip is not supported by default by ALSA/Ubuntu. You should use OSS for this purpose. I tried to install the ALSA wrapper for OSS applications (alsa-oss) and the base package for ALSA and OSS sound systems (linux-sound-base). But after installing these packages, I still don't get good audio. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong, or even better: how to get this problem solved? I am using a motherboard with Intel audio chipset and Q6600 CPU. I have tested this both with Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10.

Thanks a lot!

Johan

Hi,

I have been trying to install Osprey 210 on Ubuntu 9.10 machine. I didn't find drivers for the same anywhere. If you have been successful in installing the same, please help me.

Thanks,
Kuldeep

Hello Kuldeep,

We have spent too much time on writing our own driver. The Linux BT878 drivers unfortunately don't support audio. It was a hell of a job to do it; we now have a commercial product developed (our Maven video encoder), so hope to get some money back on sales -;)
