Video recorded with the record button

I download videos from YouTube and use the VLC record button to copy the parts I want from the videos. But almost always,the recorded video will not play back with the VLC player-but the audio works. The video and audio will also play back fine with the KMPlayer and I can also edit the video in my editing programs ,so it is there,so just wondering why I can't see the video on playback with the VLC player.

I found out the same problem but after a while (playing the files with other Media Players etc) the VLC gremlins inside the code decided they had better get their act together and play the files .... and now they play in VLC

I guess until the bug is fixed to play new recorded edit files in VLC I will just have to rework the same procedures

Yes,I usually did a search to see if this question has been asked before,and then I found your post about it right after I had posted mine. I tried renaming the file and restarting the player as you said you did,but that still didn't work for me. I thought maybe there was something I could do to fix it,but guess no answers yet.

I think its necessary to rename the file but that is not sufficient.

It was only after I had been playing the file with other Media Players that eventually it worked. Maybe not even the same day. I can't remember exactly how but. The first Player I used was QuickTime and the next Media Player I used was Media Player Classic. Then some time later tried again with VLC and it worked. MPC comes with the free K-Lite Codec package.


Success at last (I think)... Maybe you are right just rename, but not just the duplicated .mp4, but also all the extra characters prefixed ie brief renaming, I just now tried using only brief renaming and it worked! I don't know if it will keep working . I actually did the rename in the same dBox that came up to Open File - a twofer so to speak.

Fingers crossed - its alot easier than all the palaver I described above

The youtube video is flv file, maybe the VLC player not support.

If a file is in the flv format it usually has an flv extension

Firefox has plenty of add-ons for downloading their videos in mp4 format and these appear in the download folder with mp4 extensions....

In any case vlc plays them. If you read this (short) thread is about recorded edits from the files that VLC can already play...

Yes,the VLC player seems to play almost everything,which is why I use it mostly,that and the great fast forward button-so I know it plays flv. Seems mine has now actually gotten worse since posting the question,as I tried to use the record button yesterday and on some videos,it wouldn't even copy it. Again,on some it works and on some it doesn't,which also again I don't know what is wrong as they are almost always mp4/flv videos from YouTube.
