Never ending SPDIF output chopping bug

Postby pion » 01 Nov 2008 19:22

Symptoms; Select SPDIF as audio output, and sound starts chopping right away. Like a 0,2s buffer on repeat for 2 seconds, then a new 0,2s sound is repeated over and over. If You pause the playback, the sound is still present.

Fixes;
* Select Waveout as output in preferences. (Only on some soundcards)
* Don't use SPDIF as audio output

Broken on theese soundcards;
- Waveout not working:
* SoundMAX ADI1988B (Integrated chip on Asus Striker Exteme)

Broken in version;
0.8.6
0.9.2
0.9.4
1.0.0-git-20081004-0006 Goldeneye

When is this bug going to be adressed?

I have seen a post some months ago suggesting an open source (GNU) audio output module where this problem didn't exist. I will try and find it again if wanted.

This issue might get fixed when atmo has some extra time.

Solution is easy. Try to use libaout_directx_plugin.dll from VLC version 0.84. It is located in plugin directory.

Solution. I upgraded to VLC 0.9.8.a and then changed Output Type = Win32 waveOut

I watched a full 45min video with A52 over SPDIF audio flawlessly. Finnally!!

wave32 fix has never worked for me. And now, the plugin replace doesn't work either!

Using vlc 1.0.5

VLC 1.1.0 will have better DirectX SPDIF support.

I tried vlc-1.1.0-git-20100305-0002-win32.exe and I can confirm that this release is working excactly as older versions did with the 0.8.4 plugin.

I get proper audio on my hardware, but the volume control is rendered completely useless. Including mute.

But that is also the case in windows media player 12.

I performed my test on a x264 encoded clip.

I should be like that. You have to control volume from your AV receiver or from speakers.
