Deinterlacing does not work for me :(

Hi folks,

I am trying to play back DVD vob files and there are strong interlacing artefacts. So I tried to set the de-interlacing method in preferences, but they have no effect whatsoever on the video output.
OS: Win XP pro SP2
VLC: 1.0.0
I don't know what additional information I could provide.

6 months have passed now, and although I updated to the newest version, I still have the same problem. Any ideas?
