audio playback errors MP3 libmad errors

Postby cybmole » 25 Feb 2010 19:29

I get this on 2 different pcs, with 1.02 and 1.05

simple audio tracks ripped into MP3 from guitar instruction book CD. (petrucci - wild Stringdom)
VLC does not seem to like loud metronome clicks!

errors look like this:

mpgatofixed32 debug: libmad error: bad main_data_begin pointer
mpgatofixed32 debug: libmad error: bad main_data_begin pointer
mpgatofixed32 debug: libmad error: bad main_data_begin pointer
mpgatofixed32 debug: libmad error: bad main_data_begin pointer
mpgatofixed32 debug: libmad error: bad audio data length
mpgatofixed32 debug: libmad error: bad audio data length
mpgatofixed32 debug: libmad error: bad audio data length
mpgatofixed32 debug: libmad error: bad audio data length
mpgatofixed32 debug: libmad error: bad audio data length
mpgatofixed32 debug: libmad error: bad audio data length

sound is jerky & timing is off - but no problems in WMP

PS changing my audio output option e.g. from wave32 to directx makes no difrerence

any takes ?

I put one sample problem track on rapidshare but bug allpies to all tracks ripped from that CD.
the fact that it happens on 2 different PCs, with 2 different makes of sound card ( creative, Xonar ), and in 2 different versions of VLc: 1.02 / 1.05 surely rules out a lot of possibilities ?

Bad encode. Use different MP3 encoder. Fixing the file with mp3DirectCut might also help. (I can't test your file, since RapidShare is again full of leechers)

OK - encode wouldlhave been with a version of real player at it's highest VBR setting.
let me try playing the track from CD... seems VLC cannot do that... let me re-encode at 320 with WMP - plays fine.

whoops - that was ripped as wav by mistake - let's try again... still OK ...- phew!

so is the real player encoder not conformant with MP3 spec ? ( it would have been done a couple of years back realplayer v 10 or 11 I guess ). I used to use it because it had VBR, WMP does not do VBR - but as disc space is not an issue nowadays I've pretty much stopped usin it. T woudl be a chore though to have to do all of my guitar book CDs to get them to work in VLC though!
