Hi everyone! :)

I must confirm bobchewy's issue. I also have some DTS audio cds that VLC player played until and within v0.9.9. Since 1.0.0 i only get the same noise windows media player produces.

@j-b: What do you mean, can we have samples?

Hi,

yeah, i extracted some tracks as WAV files a few months ago using EAC. I'm pretty sure they contain the correct DTS stream, at least they played as well as the original disc until VLC v1.0.0  The source is this disc: http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00004SUUX/
And no, despite what amazon says, it's not a DVD-Audio, but a CD with DTS-Surround-Stream instead of PCM Stereo.

Due to their size i chose two tracks and zipped them. I could not shorten them because i have no audio editor capable of de-/encoding DTS and i didn't want to damage the files. Here you can download the samples (56 MB):

http://www.file-upload.net/download-177 ... s.zip.html

The password is "vlcr0ckz" (without quotes).

Both files work for me too using VLC 1.0.0 (tried on WinXP Pro 32-bit and Debian sid amd64).

What are the codec details when you play the files (go to "Tools >> Codec Information")? Try deleting VLC's preferences and cache files and reinstall it.

Maybe DTS CD and DTS in wav files are something different. Where can I find some DTS CD?

Hmmm, now it's getting weird and interesting.
I didn't touch the settings and preferences of VLC, but today the two files i posted yesterday play nicely  and show the correct codec information:
Image

I examined the whole CD and all ripped tracks and found out, that obviously only two other tracks won't play correctly, neither from CD nor from file. I've uploaded them here (90 MB, same password as yesterday):
http://www.file-upload.net/download-177 ... 2.zip.html

The first track ("If I Ever Lose My Faith In You") produces only white noise (both from file and from CD) and shows this codec information:
Image

The second track ("Something the Boy Said") won't play at all and shows no codec information if played from file. When i try to play this track from CD, it won't also play, but after a while VLC shows some codec information, only for a few seconds before it switches to the next track:
Image

I am really quite confused now. This whole CD and all ripped tracks played correctly in the past. What is happening here? :?

"Something the Boy Said" is fixed in 1.0.1 and 1.1.0 release of VLC.

About the "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You", I haven't find anything that played that file!!

About the "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You", I haven't find anything that played that file!!
But i have found something: VLC media player 0.9.8a Grishenko on Windows XP SP3! :)
It plays "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You" nice and clear, from file and from CD. And also "Something the Boy Said" and two other files i found, that behave like "Something the Boy Said" on v1.0.0. Can i deliver you any further information that could help solve this issue?

Here i am again, i downloaded some older versions, tested, and here is what i found out:

Code: Select all

VLC media player version | "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You" | "Something the Boy Said" --------------------------+------------------------------------+-------------------------- v0.9.8a | plays nicely | plays nicely v0.9.9 | plays nicely | plays nicely v1.0.0 | white noise | no sound / skipping v1.0.1-pre | white noise | plays nicely ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the versions 0.9.8a and 0.9.9 the codec informations says "dts" on both files.

Eat this.

well, so we fixed 1.0.1 for one sample.
We need to open a bug for the other one.

What is the samplerate for the "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You" sample?

I don't know, VLC versions below 1.0.0 only say "dts", nothing more. But it is from the same CD as the other three samples you got from me, so i suppose it is the same samplerate.

I was wondering if you are still working on this issue. Meanwhile version 1.0.5 is released and still it can't play "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You", which the versions before 1.0.0 play so fine. Is there a error in the stream that was ignored by these previous versions? New codec? But, DTS is DTS, or am i wrong?

Hello j-b! :)
Did you file a bug?
I thought you had opened one: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=62234&start=15#p209165
Upload a sample?
The samples i uploaded last summer for this thread are still available for download:
http://www.file-upload.net/download-177 ... 2.zip.html
The password is "vlcr0ckz" (without quotes). The track "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You" will only produce white noise.
Yes, i tested a few until branch-20100207-0202, with negative result for that track.

What else can i do to support you in this matter?
