Postby lgmm » 14 Dec 2009 16:43

Hi,

It would be nice to have ASIO support on vlc, ASIO makes a big difference in sound quality. Is it planed to add this functionnality ?

Thanks for any help

Portaudio output can be compiled with ASIO. But I think the biggest problem is ASIO SDK license which AFAIK isn't compatible with GPL.

I would love to see ASIO support in VLC, too. Or at least a tutorial how to built portaudio with ASIO.

Foobar has it and there is a sourceforge project adding ASIO to Windows Media Player, so maybe there is a way to integrate it into a freeware player.

I've just added the asio plug-in to foobar and it makes a huge difference, I now play my audio files and cds in 24/96 with my E-Mu 1212M, and the sound is fantastic. At first I thought it must be some sort of digital trickery, but no-no, I can really hear and feel the difference. If you have a sound card which also supports asio, it's highly recommendable.

After this huge improvement for my music in foobar, I immediately went on a search for a similar plug-in for VLC, and so I ended up here, a little bit disappointed to find that there's no such a plug-in at all.

Foobar is my favourite audio player, it's simply the best. And VLC is my favourite video player, also because it's simply the best, but it would be even more fantastic if they would both have the same fantastic sound quality, that would be even more awesome.

So guys, please make me happy, I already have the hardware, now you do the software and make a asio plug-in for VLC.

Hi

I am resurrecting this thread because I'd really like to see ASIO support in VLC for audio output.

Due to a nasty unsolved bug in Windows, I cannot play or hear sound in any other way ( https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/co ... lled_help/ ). ASIO is the only way that works...

Do any developers know if this is feasible, and how hard it might be to implement? I'm willing to undertake some of the development/programming required.
