Subtitle font big and not visible fully

Postby beersnboozes » 24 Jan 2010 18:59

Hi
I have a problem of subtitle being displayed too big and misaligned (too much to the right that it's not completely visible). I recently ripped a couple of DVDs and while the subtitle with the 1st dvd just displayed fine, the subtitle with the 2nd dvd is having trouble getting displayed. I am using VLC version 1.03
I tried the following options in preferences under "Subtitles and OSD":
1)Tried changing default encoding
2)Tried changing Font size
3)Tried giving different values for force subtitle position between -25,25,100 and 1000
..but it wouldn't budge :(

The video folder of the rip has the vdo and it's corresponding backup file(IFO) and and DVD info file.
Request members to help me on this.

Re: Subtitle font big and not visible fully / line width

Are you sure the subtitles weren't embedded on ripping? Can you turn them off? I don't see much in Preferences that's related to DVD subtitles.

I have a similar problem, playing MP4 files with .srt subtitles: The subtitles are centred but too wide. There is an automatic line return but a full line, more often the top line, is missing the left & right ends of the line as they are off the screen.

Also, I often get a line return on the 2nd line after only 1 word, for no apparent reason. Changing font size packs more or fewer words to a line but doesn't change line width or the 1-word line return.
The only "width" setting I can find is in Preferences>Video>Subtitles/OSD>Mosaic, but doesn't seem to change anything.

Any ideas?

(I'd upload a screenshot but don't see an upload option)
