Recording mulitple streams

Hi,

I try to record four video streams (/dev/video[0-3]) under Linux. So far I was not very successful. I let four cvlc programs execute in the background but it turned out that they are not recorded in the same quality. For example sometimes some frames are missed on some recorded streams.
I looked at zoneminder already but this is not what I want. I need a console based solution.

Has anyone experience or an idea?
