No, VLC is inhibiting the screensaver as long as the video plays, no matter how long it is. I can watch a 2 hour long movie without problems. But when it stops (either because EOF or manual stop) the screensaver starts. This is independent from the length of the video, if it ends after 5 secs the screensaver will start despite that my timeout is set to 10 minutes. It's probably an xdg-utils or vlc issue as far as I can tell. I wouldn't think that both GNOME and KDE4.4 implementation could be wrong.VLC stops inhibiting the screensaver, which is not the same as enabling it.
