Can VLC import .wpl playlists from Windows Media Player?

I wanted to import my entire music folder into the player. I selected add directory and all my files appeared under the library including some (wpl) playlist) files I created using Windows Media Player. When I click on them, they refuse to play. The files that make up the playlist are mp3 and wma.

Does VLC have the ability to play this playlist and if so, how do I associate it?
