VLC has difficulties to play sound of this video:
http://rmk.hamk.fi/~duartan1/misc/Apple ... y_DivX.avi

Other players reproduce sound normally.

[00000001] main vlc error: interface "(null)" initialization failed
For me, it look like vlc doesn't find its plugins. Quite strange for a packatized version !

You could try to launch

Code: Select all

vlc -vvv --color --plugin-path /path2plugin/ your_movie
My other suggestion is a 64 bits problem, somewhere in the loading of the plugins :(.

Hmmm, GSpot says the file was created with DivX501b487.

If the "b" stands for beta that could be the reason VLC is having a problem.

I've visited the DivX beta forums recently and they've mentioned that their latest beta could exhibit problem behavior with any player other than their own.

They say that issue won't be present in the final version.

While the version used for this version isn't the latest beta, which I have, I do think it is a beta so maybe the same situation applies.

I have problems with playing a DVD from the harddrive. It used to work in the 0.7 version range. This is what I do:

Code: Select all

dvdsimple://C:\MOVIE@1:1 :spu-channel=2
Instead of playing a movie as a whole it plays the vob files individual. This results in skipping between capters. Is this a bug or a future? :)

dmg-files are used for installation on Mac OS X not Windows XP. You need to download the windows version.

Hi,

I have some issues with dvds and sound with vlc-0.8.1.
-for my videos on the hard disk : ok
for my dvds :
-- with alsa:
[00000234] a52 decoder: A/52 channels:2 samplerate:48000 bitrate:192000
ALSA lib setup.c:548:(add_elem) Cannot obtain info for CTL elem (MIXER,'IEC958 Playback Default',0,0,0): No such file or directory
[00000241] main audio output error: couldn't find a filter for the conversion
[00000241] main audio output error: couldn't set an input pipeline

-- with oss:
[00000229] a52 decoder: A/52 channels:6 samplerate:48000 bitrate:448000
[00000240] main audio output error: couldn't find a filter for the first part of the conversion
[00000240] main audio output error: couldn't set an input pipeline
The both alsa and oss work with mplayer and dvds. Thx for your help.

When playing dvd's and disk images with vlc, the seconds go at a 1/2 speed so one seconds takes 2 seconds so a 3 hour movie is said to be 1:30.

Still geting late picture skipped with latest nightly. I started to think that maybe it's my crappy integrated video card, so i sent one of the samples to a friend with a real videocard (ATI 9600XT), and he tested it first in bsplayer (he has elisoft codec pack installed as well, have no idea what implementation of xvid that thing has...), and it played fine there, then on stable 0.8.1 got the same late picture skipped thingy, exactly the same thing that happens here. Maybe is something livacodec related???

Undercut audio makes cracks and artifacts, bringing up the message window reveals lots and lots of "PTS is out of range (somenumber), dropping buffer" and "output date isn't PTS date, requesting resampling (somenumber)". The file plays fine on media player classic using windows codecs. This happens in 0.8.1 stable as with the latest nightly.

WMP plays a lot of broken shitty audio files (not video btw). That doesn't make those files correct. This sounds like a classic case of incorrect timestamping in the file.

You were right, the file has something wrong with it.... yet, it also played fine under geexbox (0.98 i think + extra codecs).
I find it kinda interesting that all 3 gave diferent lenghts for the file :P (geexbox sayed it was 41 minutes long, when it actually is 34:12)
Are there some news on the late picture skipped thingy?

problem installing vlc player 0.8.1 on mandriva 2005

Postby tbc » 02 May 2005 15:51

hello, i have a problem to install vlc 0.8.1 that is a part of the distro. i followed teh instructions on the webbpage but it seems that the player has been compilled with a libwx_base of a highier version than that in the distro i get the following reply trom the urpmi:

[root@nod86 ~]# urpmi lvlc
Some package requested cannot be installed:
vlc-0.8.1-9.1.102plf.i586 (due to unsatisfied libwx_base-2.5.so.1)

how can this bee solved? thanx.

I made some ressearch on this and it seems that there only is a 2.4 version of libwx_base in the mandriva LE2005 (this used to be Mandtake 10.2 formerly) distro in the contrib media, however, the vlc-0.8.1-9.1.102plf.i586 package aks for libwx_base-2.5.so.1 and hence the installation fails.

Is 2.5 version realy required for vlc 0.8.1 ?

Could the package be updated, or could the new version of the libwx_base be added to updates or to plf?

Or did I made a mistake somewhere? :?
thanx in advance!

Re: problem installing vlc player 0.8.1 on mandriva 2005

Postby tbc » 03 May 2005 13:38

Ive done even more research on this problem and I found that there acually is /usr/lib/libwx_base-2.5.so.3 provided by package libwxgtk2.5_3 in the mandriva LE2005 distro. From this I would guess that the actual problem is in the vlc-0.8.1-9.1.102plf.i586 package, which has an incorrectly specified dependecy. However trying

urpmq -df vlc-0.8.1-9.1.102plf.i586

does not output a dependency on any package libwx or libwxgtk.

Im quite confused with this. Again, thanx for any halp in advance...

VLC crashes on OS X Tiger

Postby Guest » 11 May 2005 14:23

There might be a problem with VLC and Mac OS X Tiger.
After I installed Tiger on my mac and used VLC it crashed after switching from fullscreen mode to window mode. The window looses its border and bar, the movie stops and after a few seconds VLC crashes.

That's a known issue, which should be fixed in the final version of our next release 0.8.2.

INstalled WMP 9.0 like a dummy

Postby coredude » 12 May 2005 04:15

I installed WMP on my G5 I-Mac like an idiot this evening... needed it to listen to an audio file. Finally got rid of the WMP software and VMP doesn't interface the same with Safari anymore. Running OS X panther 10.3.9. VLC 0.8.1 was doing just great (wouldn't open a few WMP items) now Safari will not download to desktop and autmatically open using VLC.

How do I get VLC and Safari to act in concert like they did before?

Help please. Thanks in advance :?

I'm not too good in english, but i'm trying...
Donno if this is the right place to tell bugs...
My two problems with vlc are:
1: can't see the skinned playlist! It did work before, but now... nothing.
2: i miss the function resizing the picture horizontally and vertically!

But i find vlc player the best mediaplayer! little, and smart!
Congratulation for the developers!
