while i've had really good success with vlc 1.0.1 realtime encoding of h264 streams, vlc 1.0.2 works terrible. I made a post about it with some examples here: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=65718

There have been people complaining about windows side quality on x264 before, and we're checking that possible crosscompile bug. But as VLC doesn't have that many windows developers, it takes littlebit time (and as 1.0.2 is coming out soon (Tm), it takes time too).
Any progress on this problem?

J-B has worked regarding this matter, and if you could test 1.0.3-rc version regarding this matter, it would be great (seems ok for me with quick test, but I don't really use windows or do encoding on windows side at all).

I tested about a week ago with the lastest git and still had issues, but I can try tonight when I get home! 8)

kdh, could you try without all those x264-settings, which are really messing your encoding (so just set keyint, nothing else inside x264, and give it a go?)

I just asked, and seems that new compile of x264 didn't make to 1.0.3-rc

Sure thing.. I know it sounds crazy, but when we do a live show, not using those settings i get a kinda crappy picture. But for this test, i'll be sure to pull those settings out. no problem. I'll do it tonight when I get home from work.

d'oh.

That's ok. I'm pretty happy with vlc 1.0.1 at the moment, so its ok. But I'll be more than happy to test when they get the new compile of x264 include in the next release. 8)

J-B has worked regarding this matter, and if you could test 1.0.3-rc version regarding this matter, it would be great (seems ok for me with quick test, but I don't really use windows or do encoding on windows side at all).
I did a quick test (same parameters as discussed here before) and the quality problems seem to be resolved, so thx for the fix!

Hello,

I would very much like to do some more tests on this, but I'm afraid I'm a bit unclear on this issue now.
Is it correct that the new, proper, x264 build is in the release candidate, but not in the final 1.0.3 release?

If this were to be the case: is there any intel as to why it was excluded again?

Thanks!

Olivier.

No,

rc version didn't have the different build one, as we talked about it but nobody had time to actually do it then.

I tried the latest build of 1.0.4 and the x264 encoding does indeed seem to be much better
