Disabling playlists

Postby ilppendant » 09 Aug 2009 20:10

Hi, I'd like to know how to disable playlists, or failing that just find a workaround to this problem.

See, I'm currently working with a large number of audio files and I want to be able to switch between them easily. In the previous version of VLC I was using (can't remember which one it was, unfortunately) whenever I opened a new audio file the previous instance closed (or reset - the actual process is immaterial) and a new one opened with the new audio. All was well and good but when I upgraded to 1.0.1 this feature seems to have been removed in favour of adding files to some kind of ad hoc playlist which makes the whole process extremely tedious as I either have to manually close the instance whenever I'm done with the audio file it's playing, click and drag the new file onto VLC (not necessarily practical if it's behind another window) or open the new one, bring up the playlist and force it to play the new file. Either way I'd like to not have all this unnecessary mouse movement.

I tried putting it in One Instance Mode and disabling Enqueue Items in the Preferences menu but it has absolutely no noticeable effect. In fact, Enqueue Items often re-enables itself without any input from me. I've gone through both simple and advanced preferences but I couldn't find anything else that might be useful.

In a nutshell I want for double-clicking on a new audio file to stop the previous track from playing and open a new VLC instance with it playing instead. It doesn't matter if I can't use playlists because I don't care about them anyway, and it's not the end of the world if I can't have a VLC instance playing a sound file open at the same time as an instance playing a DVD (I can just use MPC, WMC or WMP for those).

Hi.

I have a similar problem, but disabling the playlist entirely is not my suggestion. Is it possible to clear the playlist every time I start one or more media files from Explorer? The way it is now, it seems impossible to avoid adding items to the list. Here's what I'm looking for:
- The setting "one instance mode". (check)
- The setting "repeat playlist" only. (check)
- When opening files from outside the program, the playlist should be cleared and only the file/files that have been selected should play.
- Adding and removing files to/from the playlist manually (through drag and drop) should still be possible.

Any ideas?

(When right-clicking a media file, there are 2 VLC options. "Add to VLC media player's Playlist", which adds the file/-s to the playlist without starting them - works as expected, and "Play with VLC media player", which adds the file/-s to the playlist and starts it/them - I'm thinking that the list should be cleared before these files are added.)

Thanks in advance;
LTar

I also came looking for a solution to this.

Currently I drag-and-drop videos from Explorer onto VLC which has the desired effect, i.e. play the video then stop when it finishes.

Would like to just double-click the video in Explorer, which intuitively should have the same result, but when the video finishes it starts playing the previous video you double-clicked because they're added to the playlist.

I would also like to see this functionality as an option... This is how Winamp/WMP operates by default.

Does anyone have any updates on this? (bump) Thanks!
