conflict in installation

conflict in installation

earlier i had vlc 0.7.1 in LINUX
but i tried installing vlc 0.8.1 then it says
the following errors:

collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[2]: *** [vlc] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/project/avlc/RPM/vlc-0.8.1'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/project/avlc/RPM/vlc-0.8.1'
make: *** [all] Error 2

i dont know what these mean..

plz help out..

You left out the part just before the "collect2", which is actually the information about what failed.

Anyhow, the odds are that you have old libraries with newer VLC source code, so by chance did the previous line say something about "undefined reference to ..."? I recall that there was one function where the parameters changed from two to three, so new source code is trying to send three parameters to a library call that can only handle two.

Try compiling a new set of libs, you should be OK.
