Subtitles vanish after a specific subtitle

Postby Liorek » 10 Dec 2009 03:07

Hi,

I've been having trouble with my subtitles for hours. I open a movie, then manually open the *.srt file. The subtitles show good for 14 minutes. Then, from a specific line of dialogue, they won't show anymore. The *.srt file looks perfectly normal, be it at the crashing point or anywhere else. Anyway the file is known to work from where I got it.

From the moment I reach this time at which the subtitles vanish, none of them will show anymore : even if I go back to the beginning of the movie where they were working. I then have to restart VLC. I tried to skip the crashing subtitle by going straight to a scene far forward in the movie, but no subtitle will show either. I even tried to delete a whole block of subtitles containing the problematic one in the *.srt file, but the following lines of dialog will never show.

I've read about similar problems due to encoding issues. It doesn't seem very likely to me as I'm trying to display English subs in an English VLC running on an English Ubuntu 9.10. Moreover the first subtitles of my file show very good and there is no special character at the crashing point. Still I tried to modify subtitles encoding detection in VLC parameters. I also tried to save my *.srt file with a different charset. I eventually saved my subtitle file in a complete different format : *.sub. It still breaks after the very same line of dialog.

I'm running short on ideas... If anyone could help, I would be grateful.

Liorek !

I tried to use my *.srt file with another movie -> all the subtitles are displaying very good.
I tried to use another *.srt with my movie -> the subtitles vanish after 15:18.

Thus my problem would be the movie... It is a DVD Video that I run from my hard drive. I can't see what is wrong with it.

Can anyone please help ?

Well I think I might be getting somewhere. When I run vlc in verbose mode, it gives me the following messages exactly at the moment the subtitles vanish.

Code: Select all

[0x15eb3e8] main input error: demux doesn't like DEMUX_GET_TIME [0x15eb3e8] main input warning: clock gap, unexpected stream discontinuity [0x15eb3e8] main input warning: feeding synchro with a new reference point trying to recover from clock gap [0x2805ea8] main video output warning: early picture skipped [0x7f850c006dc8] main decoder warning: dts != current_pts (926630968) [0x2800b98] main audio output warning: received buffer in the future [0x2800b98] main audio output warning: buffer is 97206 late, triggering upsampling [0x2800b98] main audio output warning: computed PTS is out of range (328335483), clearing out [0x2800b98] main audio output warning: timing screwed, stopping resampling [0x2800b98] main audio output warning: output PTS is out of range (328340667), clearing out
What can I do ?

edit:
Note that the video and sound goes on perfectly after the clock gap. I might see a tiny frame jump but after it the movie is absolutely normal.

Remux your video.
