Making a DVD

I have Windows XP and with it I have the VLC player. I am wondering if anyone can tell me how I can burn DVD 's. I see that one cannot burn anything with the VLC player. Please HELP I am attempting to make Xmas presents

VLC is a media player, it can transcode and serve too but it is not a DVD maker nor a CD/DVD burner.

Have a look at other software which do "dvd authoring" like (untested):
