Resume playback/continue from last scene?

Postby juxyz » 09 Feb 2009 17:04

Hello,

I was wondering how can I setup VLC to remember where I last stopped, eg. the last scene and continue/resume playback from there?

I searched the net but couldn't find anything useful...

Thanks in advance!

This would be too cool to be true. Lets say I'm watching something and someone asks me to play a duel.. I could just quit the player and play the game and continue playing just by starting vlc. :)

I second this request. It would be nice for VLC to maintain a small database that would include the filename and location, and where the file was last played from, this way each file could act as a VCR tape. In other words, VLC shouldn't just remember the last position of the LAST file played, but ANY file played. This way, whenever a file is loaded, its last position would be recalled.

Of course, if the file requires a rebuild due to errors in the file which could prevent searching, the file should play from the beginning, or at least give the user the chance to start the file from the beginning.

And a further request would be that ANY file data (ie: color correction settings, loop points, volume, etc...) should be saved into that database as well.

I strongly think this should be implemented simply because its a standard feature on all the dvd players i have ever used.

I also think that VLC should not play dumb when a dvd is loaded in the drive. DVD Player for mac certainly does not. When I was using windows, the windows apps did not play dumb. They played the DVD! At the very least, VLC should recognize the dvd and add it too the playlist (under a different category such as DVD's or Discs or something like that) It would appear when a disc is inserted.

I also think VLC should fight the native application for playing dvd's for its right to play them, but perhaps after better DVD menu support is implemented.

Ok. lost of complaining, but I am allowed too be grumpy. VLC has pampered me.

SMPlayer (http://smplayer.sourceforge.net/) has this feature and it is very useful as it saves having to forward through the entire video. As a side-note this feature can be made optional.

This feature is a must have, in my opinion. It's so obvious that I'm stumbled it still doesn't have it.

Pretty please with sugar on top, implement this soon!

Thanks for the links! Hopefully they help some people. But do you happen to know of any Mac friendly solutions?

We need this feature ASAP.

I have too much trouble in Linux trying to install what user meredi said above, the VLC Plugin "srpos"; also, the "Remember Position" VLC extension is not working despite trying everything.

for "Remember Position" VLC extension, try this:

Remember position addons.videolan.org

Got it to work.

After the same problems as resthavener had with getting it into a file. I figured out how to work it. After checking "remember position" under "view" you can quit vlc. Then when you restart the video again go back and check "remember position" again it will jump to where you left off. A little clunky to use but it does work for me. Thanks.
for srpos, I haven't been able to get it install.

I agree that improvement around this feature is highly needed.
