VLC Player for Android

Yep title says it all, the Android players are pretty dire. If VLC could create an app and publish it on the market, downloads will go through the roof. Doesn't have to be complicated. Play popular formats, hardware accelerated h.264 , xvid/divx, mvk and flash support etc.
Hope this can be thought about all the great VLC devs out there, I worship you!

I would also love to see VLC for Android. The open source backgrounds make them a natural pairing. Start the movement!

I know very little about the inner workings of VLC and the native SDK for Android but I would LOVE to see a port of VLC to some of the Android hardware. The current media player is not very good (Android 2.0).

I know there is the matter of funding (maybe Google would be philanthropic?) as well.

If nothing more, I'd like to add my desire to have an already fantastic application ported to what I believe is going to be a big platform.

I thought Android only works with apps written in Java oh wait a minute it now supports C and C++ now.

BTW CorePlayer Mobile is pushing for an Android version of it's popular 'VLC-like' media player, prolly will see it released middle of next year (if your lucky at the pace of their schedule).

What's the status of an Android (mobile) version of the VLC player? I'd like to be able to play .WMV files on my Android handset. Any possibilities for this in a future release/update? Thank You.
