Internet disconnects in Windows 7 x64

Postby gasgiant » 17 Nov 2009 22:39

Got a really weird problem here.

Lets say im watching a tv-series on VLC and downloading on uTorrent at the same time, the computer disconnects from the net.
Im using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, VLC 1.0.3 and uTorrent 1.85.0.

This only happens when i start VLC and uTorrent is running in background.
If i dont start VLC the net doesnt disconnect either....

Update your network card drivers. And/or buy better router.

This happens on my system also. It is not the router, and the network card drivers are fine until I install VLC.

High number of connections will kill most bad network card drivers or routers. Specially P2P software can open multiple connections fast and that causes issues.

Network card drivers can't be affected by installing VLC...

I have the same exact problem, and when I try to restart (the network won't start until I do that...), if the network failed, the service will hold up the computer on the Shut Down screen for ever. From what I've read in my search for the answer, some of the most common answers was: update wireless card drivers, update motherboard chipset drivers, turn off the ability for Windows 7 to turn off your adapter to save power (Right Click on Computer/My Computer on the start button, and click Properties...On top left, click "Device Manager", find your network adapter in Network adapters, right click it and click Properties, then go to the Power Management tab and uncheck the top box if it is checked, then hit ok/apply or whatever), poorly written drivers by lazy companies, problem with your USB's, among other answers.

Same behavior in WinXP. I have been using V0.9.9 and this behavior been happening with 2 different setups (Asus M3A79-T+9950 and Asus A8N32-SLI+4800). When I start to stream video it takes from 10sec to 5min before LAN is connected. LAN can not be activated before the system is rebooted. Drivers are up to date, no other program causes this behaviour and router have nothing to do with this. Only clean install of windows fix this issues but only for a while when it reappear. Could this be reported somewhere as an error?

If you can give us guidance how to duplicate the issue.
