Does the browser plug-in for OS 10.6 Snow Leopard?

Postby neverman » 05 Nov 2009 18:05

Hi - I tried installing the browser plug-in for OS 10.5 and higher. It wouldn't install. Has this installed and worked for anyone on Snow Leopard OS 10.6?

Snow Leopard is at the same time quite appropriately, and entirely misleadingly named. Appropriately, because it is, as the moniker betrays, more an upgrade to the previous incarnation of OS X than a radical overhaul. Misleading because while a living, breathing snow leopard is superficially distinct, but fundamentally little different to a leopard, OS X 10.6 is pretty much the exact opposite; little has changed on the surface, but underneath we're dealing with an entirely new creature.

Let's put it this way.

It is like the 64bit version of VLC. It sort of works, but parts of it are horribly broken. 10.6.2 is going to include a pile of bugfixes so lets hope that fixes some graphics issues in Snow Leopard.

Ok.. so 10.6.2 is out. I'm trying to translate the actual content of this thread. It appears as though - Snow Leopard is 64-bit and there is no 64-bit browser extension available yet. Is that correct?

As of now Firefox reports:
1 of 13 plugins are potentially vulnerable
VLC Multimedia Plug-in Outdated

So you can understand why this may be alarming for some people. I'm just hoping to drum-up updates on this issue.
TIA!

Uninstall it/disable it. It isn't just a matter of getting developers' attention. They already know about the issue. Writing the fixes takes time and there are only a handful of OS X developers so be patient.
