Installing Updates?

This is probably a really stupid question, but my VLC player is telling me there are updates, but when I try to install them, it wants a directory. Where do I tell it to go?

Also, would these updates help some videos I have play smoother? They're .ts files, some play fine, while others are really choppy.

VLC autoupdate doesn't work. You have to manually download the latest VLC and install/extract it.
