New Skin ASkin Redux

Postby itguy » 23 Oct 2009 05:18

I've been updating ASkin to include some new elements and features and I have a few questions:

1. Is it ok to put the VLC logo etc and to use parts from other skins?

2. Is it possible to hide the mini mode when video starts playing? Right now when a video opens and the player was in mini mode both the mini mode and the full mode are visible.

3. Is album art, display of "artist -title" not just "title" or other ID3v2 info available in skins mode?

Let me know what you think. The blue stop is what the buttons look like when hovered over

The close/minimize buttons don't really fit imho.

Concerning your questions:

1. VLC logo is ok, for taking parts of other skins you'd have to ask the authors of these skins first
2. Maybe if the mini mode were not an individual window but a different layout of the main window, than VLC would just switch the layout from mini to full, when the video starts playing.
3. Album art is not available.
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/skinedhlp/textvars.html lists all the text variables you can use.
You probably want the $N one, it is either the file name or if any tag is found it resolves to "title" or "artist - title", depending on how much info there is, iirc.

Here is the latest of my skin it includes three different modes full, mini, and micro. I can not decide if like the dark buttons or the light buttons for the full layout. So take a look let me know what you think.

I setup the different modes as different layouts in the same window and vlc will still not automatically switch to the mode with video if starting from a different mode. It is possible to manual switch of course.

Is it possible to add a graphical equalizer visualization that shows the levels for output like winamp and windows media player and other audio players?

As you can see the playlist in vlc is weird and some things just don't work right your probably aware of this problem.

You cannot do a winamp style visualization.

You cannot do a winamp style visualization.
How difficult would that be?

There would be needed slider variables that represent the playback values of the different frequency bands. But that feature was discussed already some times and always declined.
