VLC icons have turned into black squares

Friends: I have noticed all my VLC icons in Windows Explorer have turned into black squares. The script is still visible below each icon. The icon still plays the media when double clicked, but I still want the original icons back. Any ideas how to fix this? Windows XP Pro. Thanks for any help.

If you check the icon location from Windows Explorer (Tools -> Folder options... and File types tab) and locate the icon, does it show correctly?

VLC_help: Thanks for the response. Yes, it shows up as an .AVI file with the correct VLC icon beside it.

The icons cache might be corrupted.

On XP search for a file named "IconCache.db" which should be located in \Documents and Settings\<your user name here>\Local Settings\Application Data.
Delete it and reboot, it will be automatically recreated.

What is your screen resolution and color depth ?
Have you changed one of them or both recently ?

The screen resolution is 800x600 pixels and the colour depth is 32 bit. The icons were displaying fine with these same parameters.

No, it's not enabled. I re-installed VLC media player and the same result. Running out of ideas on this...

If you uninstall VLC, the default Windows icons show up OK?
