Still wrong dates in RSS feed after 2 years

Postby strawbeard » 10 Oct 2009 15:43

Problem with RSS feed http://www.videolan.org/videolan-news.rss; the same one I reported 2 years ago viewtopic.php?f=10&t=41024&start=0 - The dates of the entries are incorrect (3 years back) in some news readers, but correct in other ones.
  • Google Reader: current entries shown with dates 3 years back.
  • Bloglines.com: only very old entries from 2006 and earlier.
  • Firefox Live Bookmarks: current entries with correct dates.
  • Yahoo: current entries with correct dates.
I'm no RSS expert, so I ran the feed through the W3C Validator:

Code: Select all

This feed is valid, but interoperability with the widest range of feed readers could be improved by implementing the following recommendations. * line 2, column 86: Avoid Namespace Prefix: h [help] ... 08/w3c-synd/style.css" type="text/css"?><rdf:RDF xmlns:rdf="http://www.w ... ^ Source: http://www.videolan.org/videolan-news.rss 1. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> 2. <?xml-stylesheet href="http://www.w3.org/2000/08/w3c-synd/style.css" type="text/css"?><rdf:RDF xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/" xmlns:h="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> 3. <channel rdf:about="http://www.videolan.org/videolan-news.rss">
Even though dates look well formed, like

Code: Select all

<dc:date>2009-10-10</dc:date>
for today's top entry they might be badly interpreted due to the warning (namespace prefix) above.

Since I use Google Reader most of the time, I'd be grateful for your squashing this bug for good!

Sorry, I can only provide the problem not the solution. So some time somebody will walk by who can do it - I hope. 8)

Check your RSS feeds may be your page wrongly syndicated. Much of the problem is with your site not the syndication.
