VLC stops Mac OS X screen saver from starting

It seems as long as VLC is running it stops the screen saver from starting. This is of course good when playing a movie, but if I pause VLC I'd like the screen saver to start when it's set up to. This is mostly for the sake of the TV that I have the computer connected to.
