How to retrieve codec information

Hi,

I'm looking a way to retrieve a codec information, same as in VLC gui by clicking Tools->Codec Information->Codec Details.
I want to display which codec is being used, frame rate and resolution.
My app is using liblvc to display live video stream captured from web-cam and streamed with VLC player.

Does anyone knows which libvlc function to use to achieve this??
