VLC does not work at all (video)

Hello,

I'm running VLC 1.0.2. Through this version I was never able to see video. For every video file I try to open with VLC it writes the name of the file on the lower left hand-side of the play, then the timer counts up (shows as time/--:--) with no voice.
This happens with every ext of video I tried.

Your help is much appreciated ,please note I'm far from being a tech expert on those issues

Does removing of %appdata%\vlc folder help?

I faced the same problem under vista. After I deleted c:\users\%username%\AppData\vlc folder content all works fine.
